December17

I just realized that I haven’t been posting about food for quite a while, it’s always been my thoughts and feelings and it made me felt that, my blog has lost the spark where I would be tempting my friends at odd hours when they come to my blog.

So here comes, something about food! V Actually nothing big la, just something simple I whipped up for tonight’s dinner. I was at Queensbay Mall earlier to meet up with Hugo for lunch, and he literally dragged me to Jusco to stock up on groceries because I was running low and I was to lazy to be going grocery shopping alone. I’ve been delaying my restocking for quite some time actually! ) And yea, I’d rather stay at home than going out makan alone.

Back to the main topic, tonight’s dinner is something quite weird actually. I don’t know whether it’s Japanese or whatever, more like a fusion to me! Well, we have fried udon noodles with miso and enoki bacon! Udon is my favourite noodle ever because it’s so tangy and creamy like, and the miso is actually a gift to me from a Korean Restaurant where I dined for dinner.  It’s not the usual salty miso though, it’s sweet miso. So a little dash of Japanese soy sauce will do the trick for the soybean paste. Even Lim Ah Meow is going gaga for my dinner. =))

Another thing is the enoki bacon, which is really damn omfg simple to do. You just go to your local deli and buy some bacon, preferably streaky and not back because streaky has more fat and the flavour is definitely more intense. So yea, go streaky! And buy some enoki, which is also called the golden needle mushroom because they look as such and they are really easy to come by. Once you have the two ingredients, you just wrap the enoki with the bacon and pierce it with bamboo sticks and fry it on a hot pan.

Voila, easy peasy enoki bacon! OMG why do I sound like some chef right now.

Ahahaha I’m turning domestic somebody help me , I actually do enjoy cooking really just that I never had the heart to blog about my cookings. Maybe I’ll start someday.

And someday isn’t now. Enjoy making your enoki bacon, you’ll loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee it!

Without even noticing, I just wrote a 400 word essay on my dinner.

random-ness with my piggy-ness

Suprisingly I woke up early today although the day before I was busy as a bee. The previous day, I was out and about in Penang, roaming around doing some sightseeing just for fun (for the sake of wasting time and petrol) and at night, headed to Queensbay Mall with my brother for dinner as well as some grocery shopping. Driving there was fun as there wasn’t any jam at all! We were listening to The Best of MTV Unplugged’s; R.E.M, Alanis Morissette, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan etc. We parked right outside T.G.I Friday’s and headed straight to Laksa Shack for dinner. I wouldn’t reckon eatng there precisely good or worth every cent you pay for. The food was okay in taste and appearance although I’m not exactly a laksa fan but in my opinion, a little too pricey for my liking. A bowl of laksa costs RM 9.90? What the heck? Anyway, that would be my first and last time eating there unless someone’s paying! *evil grin*
So right after dinner we headed straight to Jaya Jusco and the shopping spree begins! I was the trolley girl for the day and the one I had was darn lousy. It just wouldn’t go straight! So my brother decided that he would cook a feast (for me?) and he just grabbed whatever ingredients he needed and in no time, the trolley was full of things; vegetables, pasta, dairy products and everything else. You name it.
After paying up, the bill was closely to 200 bucks! He took me to B.E.D, some sorta cafe/lounge for a drink with his friends. The atmosphere was like a mini version of GLO except for the ambience was much more laid back and the space was really small (I was at the upper deck). So yea, we had a few drinks, I got a little HIGH and the rest decided to go to GLO, of course I was too tired and unfit to participate so I went home to rest and sort out the groceries and place them in their respective outlets. Honestly it wasn’t easy sorting out 200 bucks worth of groceries. No easy task but I did it! In record time, 4.5 minutes! So after doing all the neccesities, I went online and started chatting while sms-ing till it was almost 2 a.m. I was feeling tired and I started to feel sleepy so I said my good byes and good nights to all my friends and went to sleep. Once I shut my eyes, this sound was constantly vibrating through the walls in my room. Apparently some dumb idiot was playing loud heavy trance/club music on the 2nd or 3rd floor and I was on the 4th floor. The idiot’s room was in my calculation is directly below mine. The sound was so annoying and disturbing, I just feel like opening my windows and yell out loud but of course I didn’t. Siao meh? Gary was pushing me to do it though. Darn you. So I just stuff the wannabe I-Pod’s earphones into my ears and doze away. Thank God for an mp3 player.
Alright, that was Saturday and now moving on, it’s Sunday! For someone who couldn’t sleep well last night, I woke up really early, 8.30 a.m. Yes, I am that crazy and insane. I woke up, feeling really crappy but excited as my brother promised me a feast. I wandered and stared blankly at the ceiling in my room for about 2 hours before I started doing the house chores; laundry, mopping and sweeping the floors, folding clothes, arranging the furniture, vacuuming my carpetted floor, changing the bed sheets and curtains, cleaning the dust off every nook and cranny in my room. Phew! I managed to finish my work in 2 hours! Speedy Gonzales! I had Dorset’s cereal for brunch (I’m so messed up) with some McVitie’s. For lunch! OMG! Yea, that was lunch for me, I went on to clean the toilet, spent 30 minutes in there scrubbing and cleaning everything that was unclean. Right after, a well deserved shower! Very rewarding indeed. After all that, I was beat. I went to my newly furbished bed and just parked my bum on it equiped with my wannabe I-Pod and I was on my way to dreamland. I was sleeping for 2 hours before my brother finally woke up and knocked my door asking me to go to the market with him. Of course, I was still sleepy I just waved my hand while still sleeping. He was quick, back in 45 minutes with squid, clams, chicken and other seasoning stuffs.

Mark, eat your heart out! Have fun in Singapore!

End result of Dissecting Squid 101 and playing with lalas.
Oh yea, roast chicken, seafood penne and braised vegetables for dinner! I was actually put in charge of handling the squids and FYI, the squid wasn’t exactly puny. Think of a air-conditioner remote. Yea it’s that size, actually it’s BIGGER! But you get the picture la right, it was insane for me. I had to pull the inner body parts out and before I knew it, black ink was oozing out, eyes popping off, tentacles dangling here and there, skin coming off. NIGHTMARE! I literally threw the squid away and my brother just started laughing at my hysteria. Not funny! It’s slimy, slippery and totally gross! But after cooking of course nice la. So yeap, he took over the squid and I played with the clams, I tried my best to open it up but those little buggers just won’t budge so moving on, I played with the chicken. I gave it a massage of olive oil, mixed herbs and salt! Fun! Oh yea, I was taking the fat out too, euww CHICKEN FAT! So yea, we marinated the chicken and stuffed the chicken with onions, scallions, carrots, potatoes, garlic and shove it into the oven. 45 minutes later and a TING, dinner was served! Also, got seafood penne lo. And braised asparagus and long beans. YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY.

This is what you get after combining everything and this sure beats Bon Apetit and Le’Cafe in KDU!

So yea that was my weekend, very fun indeed and my mind wasn’t stressing about college at all! I’ve managed to force myself to open up and just be acceptive of everything. Good or bad. End result, I’m HAPPY! I have good friends (not many but at least I have a few), a very pampering brother (*evil grin*), a very active outgoing life (HAPPY!) and lastly, this weekend both my brother and I got new gadgets for ourselves! He got himself a new stereo system for his car and now, we can watch dvds and tv in the car! Woooza! and also, a new wannabe I-pod for me! Weeee~ Alright, enough already, I need to continue with my chores, I have a floor to mop after all the cooking.

Till then, Hasta La Vista!
