I was craving for some soup and I ransacked my kitchen to only find a few measly items available. Luckily I still have my bacon leftovers from my salad and breakfast meal so I figured why not use it? So with the onions that I have in my kitchen, I decided to make a simple Bacon Onion soup for dinner and the soup alone isn’t very filling so I made some super easy Cheese toasts along.

You will need; bacon (depending on the amount you like), Yellow big onions ( 2-3 depending on preference), butter or olive oil (I used olive oil because it’s healthier ), chicken stock (I used the cubes – 1 is enough mixed with water), salt & pepper for seasoning. For the cheese toasts, just place a slice of cheese between two slices of bread and put in the sandwich maker for about 3 minutes.

Firstly, I heated up the olive oil and fried the bacon (shredded into bits) until it’s fragrant, adding in the onion and fry until it becomes transparent and softened. Once the onion is clear, add in the chicken stock and boil for 30 minutes. Season with salt & pepper, serve with Cheese toasts.

Now isn’t this a quick comforting meal.

This particular recipe intrigued me while I was watching Michael Smith on Chef At Home I like it’s simplicity and how earthy it tasted! Plus quinoa is really healthy!

You will need; one (Japanese) cucumber – taste better and crunchier!, one grated carrot, one slice of ham shredded, one lemon – juiced and zested, quinoa – boiled with double parts of water, adequate amount of olive oil, salt & pepper to taste. (I personally like a lot of pepper because it make the dish smell so great!)

It’s really easy to make; boil 1 cup quinoa with 2 cups of water like how you’d boil rice then once it’s done just mix it with chopped tomatoes, zucchinis, carrot, corn kernels, onions and splash a generous amount of olive oil and for the final touches just grate some lemon zest and juice from half a lemon with salt and pepper to taste.

Serves two or three.  It tastes so so so good

My Colourful Stir Fry Udon with Pork Ham & Bonito Flakes

You will need; a few cloves of garlic (2-3), 1 or 2 slices of ham (depending on your preference for meat), one handful of bonito flakes, half for adding in and half for garnish, one cucumber diced or sliced, one grated carrot, one or two diced tomatoes, half tablespoon of Kikkoman, adequate sesame oil, salt & pepper for seasoning.

I fried the garlic and onion with the ham until it’s fragrant before adding in the traffic light veges (Japanese cucumber, carrot & tomato) and the Bonito flakes, I also used Kikkoman soy sauce and sesame oil for seasoning before adding in cracked pepper and salt. And the last step is to add in the udon noodle and fry it until its translucent and serve, garnished with Bonito flakes

One of my favourite comfort food easy and tasty! Enjoy!

This is probably my first time writing about a trip so I’m gonna be as detailed as I can, so here goes nothing.

Around late last year or was it early this year, Hugo who’s an avid airplane ticket promotion stalker booked two Cathay Pacific tickets for two, and luckily it was right after my finals or so it was what I think it was. When I began my semester, there were no confirmed dates as to when is my semester break and I have been bugging for 4 months and still the reply was “there is no reply from USM” so nearing the end of my semester, I was constantly bugging my school’s office for the exact dates of my break, because firstly; my semester couldn’t be like 4 freaking months long and secondly, I didn’t want to cancel my trip to sit for papers!

So yea, I was hustling all my lecturers and the admin of the Mass Comm office and thankfully, my final paper is literally a week before my departure to Hong Kong! Honestly, receiving your final examination’s schedule a week prior to your first paper is a very mean thing that your school can do to you.

Major stress mampus gila babi @_@.

Anyhow, after finally knowing the exact dates for my papers, I was relieved that my Hong Kong trip had no need to be canceled and I sat for the papers doing the best that I could and I think I’ll do okay,  but my main focus was thinking of the well deserved holiday ahead. I don’t expect any fantastic results though, it’s my first semester afterall therefore I shall take this as a learning cove.

Mr.Shit is heading to HK!

Back to Hong Kong, surprisingly I slept like a baby the night before departure, and I was very well packed for everything unlike somebody who packed like as if he’s migrating to Hong Kong. I even brought several surgical masks just in case, as the swine flu case is getting pretty serious in Hong Kong. Our departure time was 8.10 am, therefore we had to wake up even before the male chicken starts singing. We woke up at 5.30 am and had some light breakfast before heading to the airport. I even brought Mr.Shit with me!

landing in Hong Kong.

The flight to Hong Kong was about 3 hours plus and it was a pleasant flight. I’ve always loved Cathay Pacific airlines, especially 10 years back when they gave me my very own kiddy meal, I still have the cartoon lunchbox that they served food in with all the Looney Tunes cartoons. Breakfast on the plane was either Fritata with Hash Brown and Breakfast Sausage or Fried Noodles with Chicken. The movie selections was great too, there’s Twilight (which I watched for the don’t know how many times already), Seven Pounds, Discovery, E!, and many more.

Upon reaching Hong Kong, we were given arrival and departure cards to be filled in and sign, presented upon arrival and depature.  We had to sign health declaration forms too, because of the swine flu outbreak.

I just realized that I haven’t been posting about food for quite a while, it’s always been my thoughts and feelings and it made me felt that, my blog has lost the spark where I would be tempting my friends at odd hours when they come to my blog.

So here comes, something about food! V Actually nothing big la, just something simple I whipped up for tonight’s dinner. I was at Queensbay Mall earlier to meet up with Hugo for lunch, and he literally dragged me to Jusco to stock up on groceries because I was running low and I was to lazy to be going grocery shopping alone. I’ve been delaying my restocking for quite some time actually! ) And yea, I’d rather stay at home than going out makan alone.

Back to the main topic, tonight’s dinner is something quite weird actually. I don’t know whether it’s Japanese or whatever, more like a fusion to me! Well, we have fried udon noodles with miso and enoki bacon! Udon is my favourite noodle ever because it’s so tangy and creamy like, and the miso is actually a gift to me from a Korean Restaurant where I dined for dinner.  It’s not the usual salty miso though, it’s sweet miso. So a little dash of Japanese soy sauce will do the trick for the soybean paste. Even Lim Ah Meow is going gaga for my dinner. =))

Another thing is the enoki bacon, which is really damn omfg simple to do. You just go to your local deli and buy some bacon, preferably streaky and not back because streaky has more fat and the flavour is definitely more intense. So yea, go streaky! And buy some enoki, which is also called the golden needle mushroom because they look as such and they are really easy to come by. Once you have the two ingredients, you just wrap the enoki with the bacon and pierce it with bamboo sticks and fry it on a hot pan.

Voila, easy peasy enoki bacon! OMG why do I sound like some chef right now.

Ahahaha I’m turning domestic somebody help me , I actually do enjoy cooking really just that I never had the heart to blog about my cookings. Maybe I’ll start someday.

And someday isn’t now. Enjoy making your enoki bacon, you’ll loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee it!

Without even noticing, I just wrote a 400 word essay on my dinner.
